THE WORK
ZOA / We Are Able! inclusive storytelling training
Whose experience gets heard? Who decides how it is told? The ZOA / We Are Able! training brought these questions into practical communication work, helping programme and communications staff tell stories with greater care, clarity and respect for people with disabilities.
What went into it
- Finding a meaningful story, understanding its audience and shaping a clear message.
- Interview preparation, the five Ws and H, story structure, change and a call to action.
- Photography and video practice: natural light, perspective, composition, focus and visual detail.
- Consent, interaction and dignified representation as part of ethical and disability-inclusive storytelling.
- Planning how stories and learning will be shared with the people who need them.
The supplied workshop programme connects storytelling, photography and dissemination over three days. The materials show practical prompts, discussion, interviewing and visual storytelling exercises.
Images below are original teaching slides, including photographic examples used in the training. They are not presented as photographs of workshop participants.
